Update to Concerns 9/30/19

September 30, 2019

Dear RSU #38 Families,

In order to be transparent and to clear up any misinformation out in the public and on social media we are sharing the following information. An incident was reported to high school administration late this weekend. The concern was reported to the police and investigated. The outcome of the investigation concluded that the concern was not deemed credible. The high school administration and the superintendent’s office have been in communication throughout the process collaborating to make sure our students are safe. The collaborative decision was made to have a normal day of school at Maranacook Community High School and Middle School based on the information provided by law enforcement.

Even though the threat was deemed not credible extra precautions were taken today to ensure the safety of students on campus. The precautions included having a deputy on campus for portions of the day, escorting students out of the building, entrances were continuously monitored, and student privileges were limited throughout the day.

We sincerely appreciate the feedback that has been provided by our valued community members. We will continue to focus on school safety and examining communication protocols with families, staff and students. Although it is our hope that this situation will never happen again, we have learned important lessons to help inform decisions in the future. If you have any other questions or concerns please continue to reach out to district and school administration.  It is the top priority of administration, teachers and support staff to ensure the safety of the students we serve.

We will continue to be vigilant around student safety and update families if any further concerns are brought to school and district administration. We look forward to supporting our students in a normal school day tomorrow.
