Transition Information for 5th Grade Parents

Dear families,

At this time of the year, we start the process for transitioning fifth-grade students to Maranacook Community Middle School (MCMS). We have many transition activities planned for the students, and their families, over the next few months and hope that you will participate in as many of these as you can.

Maranacook Community Middle School is one of thirty-six schools to have earned the New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) Spotlight School status. As a result of an on-site visit from representatives from NELMS, we were commended for the following practices:

  • Keeping true to middle level best practices including teaming, looping, advisory, small class sizes, and integrated curriculum units at a time when other schools are being pressured to give them up
  • Providing students with a strong safety net to help promote the whole-child and to help them develop the qualities outlined in our mission and vision statements
  • Providing programming to meet the need of all students (including the: alternative program, Gifted & Talented program, and music program)
  • Developing strong relationships between the staff and students, creating a supportive and encouraging environment

As a school, we are proud of our Spotlight status and we are also committed to continually improving in order to help provide students with the best education possible. Part of continual improvement includes open communication with home and school. Throughout the upcoming weeks, I will be including important information in your child’s 5th-grade newsletters. Please watch for these and let me know if you have any questions about any information that has been provided.

I look forward to meeting you and your child to prepare them for the next step in their educational journey.

Please take some time to fill out this form about your child. We have found the information from these surveys to be critical in making the best possible placement for your child on a team. We use this information, with information provided by your child’s current teacher(s) to make the placement decisions. During the month of April, we will be forming the teams for the incoming class.
